Banana, Cookies ‘n’ Cream Shake + PlantFusion Review

Cookies N Cream Shake An Unrefined Vegan

Many, many weeks ago, NutraSpark Nutritionals generously sent me a whole bunch of PlantFusion plant protein powders – and during that time I sampled some of the varieties in beverages and also developed a couple of recipes that featured their flavored products. I thank them for the goodies and for their patience!

Full disclaimer: I’m not a big fan of protein powders.  I prefer to get my nutrients from whole foods – but every now and again I’ll add a scoop of protein powder to my smoothies.  Having said that…What’s great about PlantFusion is that – of course – they contain protein-packed plants like sprouted quinoa and amaranth, kale and broccoli – but they also have probiotics to aid in digestion with their “digestive enzyme blend.”  One of the things I really like about PlantFusion powders are that they contain stevia and erythritol, and not sugar.  Their powders have the full complement of Vitamins A to Zinc – with many exceeding the recommended daily intake.  If you’re shaky on getting your vitamins and minerals from whole foods but can commit to a quickly-prepared daily beverage, PlantFusion powders would be an excellent product for you.  And the flavors will definitely tempt you: chocolate, cookies and cream, chocolate raspberry, chocolate caramel, and vanilla.  The Cookie ‘n’ Cream Shake below is…addictive.

If PlantFusion powders sound appealing to you, I’m pleased to have sample products to share with one of my readers.  Up for grabs is one pound of protein powder in your flavor of choice – PLUS – a sampler packet that includes all of their flavors in both Phood and PlantFusion powders!  Enter the giveaway below and be sure to take a look at the recipes I’ve included here.  Giveaway ends at midnight U.S. CT time, May 9.  Sorry, folks, open to those in the U.S. only.

Ingredients
  1. 1 cup almond meal
  2. 1 cup flaxseed meal
  3. 2 apples, cored but not peeled, and chopped
  4. 1 package PlantFusion Phood Chocolate Caramel Shake
  5. 1 cup unsweetened apple juice or water
  6. 1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  7. 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Instructions
  1. Add the flaxseed meal and almond meal to the bowl of a food processor and lightly pulse a few times just to break up the almond meal and combine the ingredients. Pour into a large bowl and add the Phood powder.
  2. Put the apples and lemon into the food processor and process until just about the consistency of applesauce. Add the apple juice or water, and vanilla extract and process until fairly smooth.
  3. Pour this mixture in with dry ingredients and stir until thoroughly combined.
  4. Fill a 1/3 cup measure with some of the batter, turn over the cup and tap it on a Teflexx dehydrator sheet. Gently press down the mixture to form a circle that's about 1/2-inch thick. Repeat with remaining batter. I got 5 pancakes per tray.
  5. Put the trays in the dehydrator and turn it on to 145-degress F. Dehydrate for 30 minutes, then turn down to 115-degrees F and dehydrate for about 5 hours. Carefully flip the pancakes over and continue to dehydrate for another 1-2 hours or until the pancakes are firm, but not crispy.
  6. Serve with your favorite pancakes fixings.

There are those frozen bananas again, I really must try that some time. I think living in a cold country makes me wary of freezing fruit unless I’m going to cook it and eat it hot later on. Those pancakes look terrific.

Haha! Yep – frozen bananas make for the creamiest smoothies! Like ice cream.

I go back and forth–sometimes I use protein powder, and I’ll use it daily in meals, and other times I’ll forgo it for months.

I’ll use protein powder if I’m trying to gain weight, but otherwise I do without. My favorites are Ultimate Meal and Raw Warrior, but I’d love to try another! I follow on Twitter and Pinterest. 🙂

I’m kind of addicted to protein powder. I use them everywhere! Smoothies, chia pudding, homemade bars, etc. I love it. Those PlantFusion flavours sound delicious.
    Thank you for the giveaway.

I’m also partial to getting my protein through food directly, such as quinoa, beans, etc., but I’ve seen some yummy muffin and smoothie recipes that use protein powder that I’d love to try 😀

Hey, I finally figured out how to comment on your new site! 🙂 So yeah, Plant Fusion is the only brand of protein powder I’m aware of that I can actually eat/allergies. So, I like the protein powder and use it pretty frequently. Would love if they were more affordable, but it is what it is. Yes, of course, it’s tasty and fun to make things from scratch, but sometimes I need something quick and easy before moving on to other culinary projects.

I use protein powder in recipes on days when I do not get enough protein through meals or if I have a heavy workout and need the extra protein. I use it in smoothies, oatmeal, and snack bars. Love how may flavors are on the market! Plant Fusion has some of the yummiest

I like protein powders because they give a creamy texture and often some calcium to shakes. I don’t like bananas very much, so PPs help to thicken things up! Can’t wait to try these.

I love Epic Protein powder by Sprout Living and I use it daily, but this one looks pretty good too! I have never had raw pancakes…they are definitely different than traditional….kind of like a raw cookie I’m guessing in texture?? They sure sound tasty 🙂

I find they have a bit of a powdery feel when mixed into smoothies. Not bad, just noticeable.

I use a Tropical Flavor that I love by Vega but only a couple times a year even. Not worth the money to use them in all the smoothies. Usually love the added taste though.

I haven’t tried that flavor! I really liked their vanilla – but it got too expensive to – as you say – use daily.
