Late to the Party

Sunflower with BumblebeeJust as I did when Pinterest came out all hot and heavy on the scene, I resisted joining Instagram*.  Who needs it? thought I.  Who needs yet another way to obsess over acquiring Friends and Followers – to connect socially – to share more?  Not me, no way.  So it was only a matter of time, right?  Caving in, I recently added Instagram to my iPhone and true to probably every other Instagram user, I immediately starting snapping everything that moved and also everything that didn’t move.  Much to my surprise, my not-so-high-quality iPhone photos looked…really cool.  I share a few below (and one above).

Incidentally, I also came late – very late – to the Mac party.  A couple of days ago, my hard-working HP laptop died an unceremonious death.  Stuttering, freezing, faltering, its hard disk had apparently suffered irreparable damage from too many trips through airports; it finally balked at being crammed into overhead bins and possibly revolted over having to store too many food photos for the blog.  Like a person dashing out of a burning house, I grabbed what files I could and then retreated.  To the Apple Store.  I’ve been toying with the idea of becoming a Mac owner for years.  Now seemed like the perfect time to jump in.

*If you are an Android user, I recommend Vignette.  It has way more tweaking options than does Instagram.  I’m hoping to see Vignette create an app for the iPhone.

What a fantastic selection of photos! Congratulations on getting on with instagram and a Mac, I haven’t managed either of these yet, but maybe one day….you may be late to the party, but I’m still in my pyjamas!

I’m limited to my iPhone for blog photos – maybe it really is time to get on the Instagram bandwagon! My photos are ok, but they could definitely be more interesting. Great photos!

It is so funny that you posted this today, because, I just started using instagram this week. Actually, that’s only half true. I installed it on my iphone and only used it half-heartedly because I was using hipstamatic more. Alas, when I heard that Chris had started doing it regularly, and sharing with friends, I decided to join in the fun. And it is fun! What is your username? I’ll follow!

And congrats on your Mac! It will change everything. πŸ™‚

Great pictures! I just started using Instagram too. It makes my iPhone pictures look so much better, but I haven’t gotten into the “social” aspects of it. JUST TOO MUCH!

Oh, and personally I still like ShakeIt photo better than instagram. But that’s just me.

It’s a fake Polaroid camera. You take the photo and you have to shake your phone for it to “develop”. A lot of TKS FB photos are from Shake It!

Yay for Instagram! I’m jealous on the Mac- I wanted to get one last time I needed a new laptop, but that came sooner than expected and didn’t have enough money for a Mac…sigh…

What’s your Intagram username? Be my Insta-buddy?? lol

Yeah, a Mac is a big investment – which is why I’ve always held off. I do feel like a joined a special club now, however ;-).

Yes, let’s be instagram buddies – yay! anunrefinedvegan is my name. What’s yours, Gabby?

Good doggie πŸ™‚ What is that huge Halloween prop? It can’t really be a spider, can it?? My dreams of moving to the country may have just died an arachnophobic death!

Um, yes, that spider looks absolutely terrifying! Is is as big as the photo makes it look? I can’t believe you were able to get that close to it!

      Ike looks super cute though.

I’ll take one of these bad girls over the much smaller brown recluse. Garden orbs get to be HUGE, but they’re truly wonderful. They set up shop, eat copious amounts of bugs, leave their offspring behind for next year and then they die. Such a simple life.

      2. Somer

Oh yes, we had the brown recluse when I lived in St. George. Um, they are ferocious. One jumped on me from a wall once and another time I swear one charged at me. I finally got the courage to smash it and it seemingly spread everywhere… baby brown recluses moving every direction. Now you understand my primal fear of spiders.

      3. An Unrefined Vegan

I’m with you. I’ll “catch and release” just about every other kind of spider, but BRs get smashed. Nasty creatures. Almost everyone I know in OK has a battle scar from being bitten.

      4. Somer

You are a better woman than I am. I pretty much smash all spiders now. Tainted. Maybe I’ll try and exercise more compassion….

      5. Somer

Ha ha! We were up the canyon last night, I have an oil blend for you. Everyone around us was getting eaten alive and spraying DEET all over themselves, while our little family got nary a bite!

We always had a Mac & it not even called a pc: It is a MAC! Welcome to the world of endless options & choices! Have fun with your new toy! Excellent cool pictures: that spider looks dangerous & kind of cool too!

Thanks, Sophie! I’m excited about my new toy. Slowly figuring it out. I’ve been a PC user since, well, day one – so lots to learn. Although the spider looks intimidating, she’s a wonderful garden companion. I always look forward to them appearing around the yard as they make quick work of big bugs!

We are all Mac all the time over here and have had fewer problems in the last 10 years than we did in the two prior with our various PCs. Welcome and the pics are wonderful!

Late to the party? You should see my cell phone. There’s no “i” attached, and it barely functions as a phone, much less a camera or a computer. Frankly, I don’t want to be so connected (I get enough interruptions already!)
I dream about getting a Mac one day, but I also dream about having the ablitily to operate one.
So….do you find it very different from the HP?

I think you have the right idea about your phone. Advanced technology does not equal a simpler life! It is different from an HP – little things, mostly. I’m sure that I’m not utilizing my Mac to its fullest, but I appreciate how much faster it is. Just more…elegant. Didn’t come loaded with garbage like PCs; better virus protection. And more fun somehow, though maybe that’s just marketing ;-).

Fabulous photos babe. I’m jealous of the Iphone and the Mac! It’s not worth investing in either right now cause they’ll likely be trashed within weeks. I pretty much have to replace my ghetto flip phone once every three or four months. You know who likes to drop them in the toilet, hot chocolate or run it under the hose. Good times.

YAY! I’ve just joined you at the party, Annie. I’m in a constant state of confusion at the moment, though – my blog Instagram account pushes my pics to my Facebook page and Tumblr… Facebook then pushes them to Twitter… but who’s looking after Pinterest??
And then there’s my personal Instagram account that can push to my Facebook wall, but what if I want to share on my blog AND my personal FB and what if I need to snap a pic real quick and don’t know which Instagram account I’m in??? bahaha, technology!! These things are supposed to make us smarter, right?
They’re so much fun though that I still want to play. Your photos are gorgeous and I want to give your puppy huge cuddles. Have fun with your new Mac too – I’m still trying to work mine out but loving it along the way. πŸ™‚ xxx
